Meeting at the Turkish Airlines counter at Istanbul Airport 3 hours before the flight. After passport and check-in procedures, we will depart for Sarajevo on Turkish Airlines flight TK1021 at 07:05. Arriving at 08:00 local time, we will then head to the city center of Sarajevo with our vehicle waiting at the airport. Sarajevo, the capital and largest city of Bosnia and Herzegovina, is an important center particularly in the Balkans. The city is a meeting point for Roman Catholics in the west, Eastern Orthodox Christians in the east, and Ottoman peoples in the south. Throughout history, it has been an example of the clash of civilizations while also being a beacon of hope for peace with its multiculturalism and tolerance. Known for its religious diversity, the city has been home to Muslims, Christians of various denominations, and Jews for centuries. The city’s broad historical diversity is also reflected in its architecture, where certain points resemble a Central European city while just a few streets away one can encounter the effects of Ottoman or Soviet-style socialist modernism. After arriving in the center, we will embark on a walking city tour which includes Vijecnica (Central Library), built as a municipality during the Austro-Hungarian Empire and now serving as a national library, the intriguing Inat Kuca, the Bosnia River, and the Latin Bridge that has survived since the Ottoman Period, which marks the point where the assassination of the Austro-Hungarian archduke ignited World War I. We will also visit the historical center of Sarajevo, known for its cobbled streets, traditional bazaars, and historical mosques, known as Baş Çarşı. In this area, it is possible to hear the call to prayer while passing by a church or synagogue. Among the sights we will visit in the Baş Çarşı area are the Sebil of Baş Çarşı and Pigeon Square, the historical clock tower, the Sacred Heart Cathedral, and Morica Han, the only surviving Ottoman inn from the Ottoman Era. We will conclude our tour by seeing the Eternal Flame (Vjecna Vatra), dedicated to the military and civilian casualties who liberated Sarajevo during World War II. The monument is made of tiles with inscriptions in the colors of the former Yugoslav flag (blue, white, and red) and features a copper vessel shaped like a laurel wreath with a flame that is always burning inside. After the tour, there will be free time. At the time indicated by the guide, we will transfer to our hotel. Overnight stay at the hotel.
2nd Day: Sarajevo – Počitelj – Blagaj – Mostar – SarajevoAfter breakfast at the hotel, we will depart for the Magnificent Bosnian Heritage (Počitelj & Blagaj & Mostar) tour. First, we will visit Počitelj, known as the Turkish Village, which is a historical site preserved in its entirety, where we will see buildings constructed in the 16th century during the Ottoman Period and Počitelj Fortress. Our next stop will be Blagaj. In this historical town, we will see the Blagaj Tekke, built as a dervish lodge on the banks of the Buna River, surrounded by high rocks. You can have your lunch during the free time given near the Buna River. After a short journey, we will arrive in Mostar. Our walking tour in the city, built around the Neretva River, will first take us to see the Mostar Bridge, a masterpiece of Ottoman architecture and the symbol of the city. Although it was destroyed during the conflicts in late 1992, it was rebuilt in 2004 with significant contributions from the Republic of Turkey.
