Day 3: Erivan (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner) (Voghjabert, Geghard, Garni, Hor Virap, Echmiadzin)
After breakfast, we leave our hotel for a day filled with magnificent beauties. Our first stop on the tour is the Charent Arch in Voghjabert Village (Ararat Arch). This structure is designed to resemble a mouth opening to Ararat Mountain (Ağrı Mountain). (Approximately 15 Km) According to the Bible, Noah's Ark landed in this area. Next, we head to the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Geghard Monastery. (Approximately 25 Km) Situated in the shadow of magnificent hills in the Azat Valley, this monastery, carved from rocks between the 4th and 13th centuries, is one of the significant Christian shrines in the world. Among its treasures is the spear that wounded Jesus Christ. Following this, we head to Garni Village for lunch. At our authentic restaurant offering Armenian local flavors, you can bake lavash bread with local women. Afterward, we will see the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the natural formation known as ‘’Symphony of Stones’’. (Approximately 10 Km) For thousands of years, these rocks have been carved into symmetrical hexagonal shapes by rain and wind, spreading throughout the valley to form a "Basalt Organ" appearance. Next, we will visit the Garni Temple, the only surviving Pagan Temple built in the 1st century A.D. (Approximately 10 Km) This structure allows us to trace the pre-Christian religious life of the Caucasus and was built in honor of the Sun God Mithras. We then visit Hor Virap Monastery, located near the Turkish border at the foot of Ararat Mountain (Approximately 50 Km). In 301 A.D., Armenia was declared the "first Christian nation in the world.” Initially built as a chapel in 642, the Khor Virap Monastery has been expanded and is one of the country's most important religious sites today. Finally, we travel to Echmiadzin (Vagharshapat), the city that is home to the Armenian Apostolic Church's headquarters in the Armavir province of Armenia. (Approximately 50 Km) The city hosts the Echmiadzin Cathedral, which was built after Christianity was accepted as the state religion in 301 and is still active today, regarded as the oldest cathedral in the world, carrying the title of the center and throne of the Armenian Church. For dinner, we will take you to a special place that we believe you will enjoy with its delicious menu as well as cultural and artistic activities. After the tour, we will transfer back to Erivan. (Approximately 90 Km) Previously referred to as the “Blue Lake” in official documents until 1930, this journey will mesmerize you with its breathtaking natural scenery. Our first stop in the lake region is the Sevan Cemetery, which has the world's largest collection of Khachkars (cross-stones).
