Toledo is a true open-air museum and the former capital of Spain, one of the most important cities on the UNESCO World Heritage list. The country’s most majestic cathedral, hosting works by world-renowned painters, has become competitive with some of the world’s leading museums. Known as the city of El Greco, Toledo has managed to remain unchanged since the 16th century. Structures bearing the traces of Roman, Visigoth, Arab, Gothic, and Renaissance architecture, narrow streets, El Greco’s paintings, typical pastry shops, Damascino stores, and of course, its famous cathedral make Toledo a tourist pilgrimage site. Another tradition in Toledo is the production of marzipan, a sweet treat that has remained since the Arabs conquered the city. After a walk through the Jewish quarter, we move to Granada.
