Day 3: Yerevan (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner) (Voghjaberd, Geghard, Garni, Khor Virap, Echmiadzin)
After breakfast, we depart from the hotel for a day filled with magnificent sights. Our first stop is Charent Arch in Voghjaberd Village, which is designed as an opening towards Mount Ararat. (Approx. 15 km). According to the Bible, Noah’s Ark came to rest in this region. Next, we visit the Geghard Monastery, which is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Located in the Azat Valley, the monastery was carved out of rocks between the 4th and 13th centuries and is one of the important Christian sanctuaries of the world. The monastery’s treasury contains the Spear of Christ which wounded Jesus. After that, we go to Garni Village for lunch. In our traditional restaurant, you can make bread with local women during lunch hour. Later, we see the natural wonder known as 'Stone Symphony', a natural formation listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Rain and wind have sculpted these stones into symmetrical hexagonal shapes over thousands of years, creating what looks like a 'Basalt Organ'. Subsequently, we head to the Garni Temple, built in the 1st century AD, which is the only pagan temple still standing from that era. It was built in honor of the Sun God Mithra, reflecting pre-Christian Caucasia religious practices. Next, we visit Khor Virap Monastery, located very close to the Turkish border, at the foot of Mount Ararat. Established initially as a chapel in 642 and expanded to its current form in 1662, Khor Virap is one of the most significant religious sites in Armenia. Lastly, we visit Echmiadzin (Vagharshapat), the spiritual center of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Armavir, about 50 km away. The city, which in 301 AD became the first country to adopt Christianity as its state religion, hosts the Echmiadzin Cathedral, built after the acceptance of Christianity and still active today. It is regarded as the oldest cathedral in the world and remains the spiritual center and throne of the Armenian Church. In the evening, we are taken to a special restaurant renowned for its delicious food, cultural, and artistic activities. After the tour, transfer back to Yerevan (~25 km).
