After passport, baggage, and customs procedures, we leave the airport for the Sarajevo city tour. We begin our tour of the city. We start in Baščaršija, one of Europe’s most exceptional bazaars. In this cultural city tour, we begin with the Sebilj Fountain, the symbol of Baščaršija, then see Morića Han, one of the most authentic spots in the city. After that, we visit the Gazi Husrev-bey Mosque, a relative of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent. Continuing our tour, we see the Clock Tower, the famous fountain that has become a ritual stop, and the meeting point of cultures; this street is also where the symbolic Eternal Flame monument is located. We then have free time; during this free time, guests who wish may photograph the Latin Bridge, where World War I began. After the tour, we have free time. Guests who wish may join the optional Travnik Tour. (55 EUR) We head toward Travnik. Upon arrival in Travnik, we first visit the old castle. After visiting the castle, built in the Bosnian Kingdom and decorated during Ottoman rule, we visit the “Sulejmanija” Mosque, the first mosque built by the Ottomans in Bosnia. We take a walk through the city center. We also visit the house of Nobel Peace Prize-winning writer Ivo Andrić, one of the most important places to see in Travnik. After visiting this house, which has been turned into a museum and which beautifully explains to the world the reasons behind ethnic divisions in the Balkan geography, we visit the Blue Water, where it is rumored that Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror drank water. Then we travel back to Sarajevo. Transfer to our hotel. Overnight at the hotel. Day 2 Sarajevo – Konjic – Mostar – Počitelj – Medjugorje (Blagaj-Kravice) After breakfast at the hotel and check-out of the rooms, we depart from our hotel by private coaches and head to Mostar. Guests who wish may join the optional Vrelo Bosne tour. (20 EUR) We visit Vrelo Bosne, Sarajevo’s water source, located on the edge of Mount Igman, containing the source of the Bosna River, arranged in the time of Tito, and famous for its excellent walking paths, horse carriages, and authentic coffee houses; it is Sarajevo’s largest national park. Our journey to Mostar will take approximately 2.5 hours, with stops at various points along the way. Our first stop is in Konjic (Konyitz), where we take a break to see the famous Konjic Bridge, restored by Turkey, which has survived from Ottoman times to the present, and to enjoy coffee by the Neretva River. Afterwards, upon arrival in Mostar, we begin our city tour on foot and first see the Mostar Bridge. (Built in 1557 by architect Hayreddin, the bridge is a masterpiece of Ottoman architecture.) The bridge was destroyed by Croatian artillery in the war of 1992, but thanks in large part to the contributions of the Republic of Turkey, it was reopened in 2004. We also see the Koski Mehmed Pasha Mosque. After our Mostar tour, we visit the village of Počitelj and have free time. Guests who wish may join the optional Blagaj Tour. (20 EUR) After Mostar, we transfer to Medjugorje (or the surrounding area) for overnight accommodation. Guests who wish may join the Kravice Waterfall tour, one of the most magnificent waterfalls in the Balkans. (35 EUR) Overnight at the hotel. Day 3 Trebinje – Podgorica (Kotor-Tivat-Perast-Budva) After breakfast at the hotel, we head to Podgorica, the capital of Montenegro. After a panoramic city tour of Podgorica, whose architectural planning developed under European influence, we transfer to our hotel. Guests who wish may join the optional Kotor-Tivat-Perast-Budva tour. (70 EUR) Our first stop is Kotor. Although small, this city is very important in terms of historical and architectural monuments, and since 1979 it has been on UNESCO’s World Heritage List. On our walking city tour, we see the main landmarks of Kotor, which carries the texture of Venetian architecture, and then begin driving around Kotor Bay. We visit Perast, which offers postcard-perfect views with its unique scenery. Our final stop along the shores of this bay is the city of Tivat, where Porto Montenegro is located. Known as the Monaco of Montenegro, you can relax in Tivat’s luxury cafés and unwind from the day by swimming or walking along the beach. After the tour, we head to Budva. After a panoramic tour of Budva, we stop to view St. Stefan from above, a former fishing settlement that was expropriated and later sold to a Singaporean billionaire, and is now a holiday destination for the jet set. We then transfer to our hotel in Podgorica. Overnight at the hotel. Day 4 Podgorica – Shkodra – Tirana (Lake Shkodra) After breakfast at the hotel, guests who wish may join the optional lunch-inclusive Lake Skadar tour. (65 EUR) Also known as Lake Shkodra, this is the largest lake in the Balkans. Home to more than 270 bird species, including the rare and endangered pelicans of Europe, this peaceful lake will enchant you with its nature. We will have lunch at the lake and complete this tour with our private boat in Rijeka Crnojevića, then enter Albania via Shkodra. Upon arrival in Tirana, we begin our tour of the capital. We will take a panoramic tour of this beautiful city, shaped by wars throughout the 20th century and the dictatorship regime of Enver Hoxha for 40 years, developed by Süleyman Pasha in 1614 and made the capital of Albania in 1920. During our tour, we see the Et’hem Bey Mosque in Skanderbeg Square, the Historic Clock Tower, the National History Museum, and the Opera House.
